What is this course about? The world in which we live is likely to change more in the next 50 years than it has ever done before. Our role in that change is more important than ever. Geography explains the changes and helps to prepare people. It is a subject about now and the future. As well as being a study of where places are and what they are like, the subject studies how and why they are changing and at what rate the change is taking place. What will I learn? AS Geography: Rivers, Floods and Management, Coastal Environments, Population Change and Health Issues. You will look at case study examples from all over the World including the Rivers Brahmaputra and Mississippi as well as investigating the spread of the HIV/AIDs and the future impacts of obesity. A2 Geography: Plate Tectonics and Associated Hazards, Weather and Climate and Associate Hazards, Contemporary Conflicts and Challenges and World Cities. You will analyse the ways in which we can predict, plan and respond to current World Issues such as Climate Change and the development of new nation states in Northern Africa and the Middle East. Where will it take me? The skills you use make you of potential interest to a wide range of employers. The close link between the subject and the world around us makes for a long and varied list of related careers. For example: working with development or aid agencies, environmental work, using Geographical Information Systems, working for the Census Office and in tourism and recreation.
