Product Design embraces a creative design and practical approach to materials and product development. You will study the course through two different modules: Unit 1: (6GR01) Portfolio of Creative Skills (60% of AS). This unit is divided into three discrete areas of study: product investigation, product design and product manufacture. They will choose their area of interest from either conceptual design or the built environment with work being submitted in April for assessment. Unit 2: (6GR02) Design and Technology in Practice (40% of AS). In this unit, you will develop a knowledge and understanding of a wide range of materials and processes used in the field of design and technology. You will be examined in June through a written paper. What are the key features? Very few courses allow the ability to both design and develop a product that can be taken to interviews and used as the basis for competitions. This course will also challenge and extend your creativity – a skill certainly valued by employers.
