Unit 1: (Food 1) will be divided into three sections: Section A: Materials and Components - This will cover nutrients, energy, food additives and the relationship between diet and health Section B: Design and Market Influences – This will cover health and social factors, dietary needs of individuals, issues affecting design and design in practice such as new product development Section C: Processes and Manufacture – This will cover food safety and hygiene, quality control and food labelling Unit 2: (Food 2) Learning through Designing and Making. An opportunity for you to develop your own skills through a coursework portfolio and manufactured outcome which show cases your talents according to the assessment criteria. To aid the theoretical section of the course, you will take part in a range of experiments as well as planned practical work that will allow you to further your understanding of components, ingredients and nutrients in food products.
