Mathematics at AS level is a challenging and interesting subject which progresses from the work that has been met at GCSE and develops a further understanding of mathematical processes and the ability to reason logically. It complements many other subjects and is highly respected by universities and employers. All AS Mathematics students will take two Core modules, C1 and C2, that contain pure mathematics (incorporating work on algebra, trigonometry, calculus and coordinate geometry) and an applied mathematics module. The applied module may vary and will be taken from Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Mathematics. Students will be assessed by three examinations based on the modules that they take. The examinations each provide an equal part of the assessment for the final award. There is no coursework requirement.
