Film Studies AS Level

UPDATED 20160203 14:39:33

Film Studies is designed to develop students’ interest in and appreciation of cinema, by looking at: (a) The film text – the ‘language’ of film, spectatorship and how that ‘language’ is ‘read’; (b) Producers and audiences with particular reference to Hollywood and British Cinema in the AS year; this is extended to international film in A2. (c) The messages and values contained in films. At AS level there are two pieces of coursework: a written analysis of a film sequence and a creative project – either a photographed storyboard or an extended step outline. There is one exam (2 hours) with 3 essays on the following areas: • Audiences and producers • British film topics • American film comparative study.
