Biology A Level Linear

UPDATED 20160203 14:29:59

Students will be learning the fundamental ways in which living things are organised, and how they relate to each other and the world around them. They will look at the structure and function of cells, and the biochemical reactions going on inside them, including the details of photosynthesis and respiration. Some aspects of the physiology of plants and animals will be considered, for example the circulatory and respiratory systems. Units on inheritance, ecology, and the application of biology in industry, genetics and medicine may be covered. Students will also be assessed on practical skills and mathematical skills as part of the written exams taken at the end of the course. Many of the issues which society must address relate to the biological sciences including animal experimentation, cloning, genetically modified foods, stem cells, embryo and fertility research, the human genome project and its implications. The discipline of Biology at A Level will offer a student ways of thinking about and being involved in these debates. Biology can combine with other Sciences and Maths, but also with Humanities, Psychology, and PE. Biology is a useful starting point for many careers. It can lead to work with animals, in agriculture, medicine, or in the cutting edge industries of bio-technology,
