Students on this course will have the opportunity to learn about the social, political and economic history of Britain and other countries in Europe, America and more distant parts of the world. They will develop their knowledge and understanding of some fascinating events and people. History is also about exploring how the world has developed through time and they will learn how to investigate, debate and critically analyse the past. The course is a two year linear course with assessment based on a combination of exams and coursework. Students will be expected to consider the evidence of sources, develop detailed arguments, and reach sustained arguments. In their second year of study, they will carry out an enquiry leading to an extended piece of writing. History students become very effective communicators, researchers and analytical thinkers. These skills are widely recognised and valued by employers and universities. History combines well with Arts, Languages and Science based subjects and can lead to a wide range of exciting and challenging careers, such as journalism, law, teaching, publishing, business and the civil service.
