This course is for you if you have a strong interest in sewing fashion garments and would like to learn more about the whole process including some design. This is a Level 2 qualification and is designed to develop your existing skills in fashion sewing. The course will give you a good foundation in the subject and is ideal for those who want to attain a good standard of clothes making, gain knowledge of the design process and learn new techniques. Whilst you are on the course you will also become more familiar with professional terminology that will help you develop your language skills. You will complete a technical folder, show that you understand design principles and make 2 garments. The course is based on gaining strong practical skills – you will develop your skills in measuring accurately, cutting and stitching, care and handling fabrics, pressing methods. These skills are necessary for simple yet professional garment construction and your progression. Following successful completion of the course not only will you be competent in making clothes enhancing your employability options but you may consider progressing to other qualifications in the subject or possibly Higher Education.

This is for external awarding body and internal invigilation authentication purposes. At the ‘Tutor Screening Assessment Sessions’ there will be a simple ‘on line’ initial assessment this is to help us determine if you need any extra help. This is followed up through the course with tutor on-going assessments of your progress and achievement. Your tutor will let you know how you are getting on. There are assessments on a technical folder, design principles and 3 garments. An Internal verifier will also assess your work once a term during the course, so it is important that you manage your time and your assignments well and hand work in as requested.
