MODULAR YEAR 12 COURSE CONTENT: During Year 12, you will complete the three units of work which contribute towards the OCR Technical Level 3 Certificate in IT. The focus of these units is to provide you with an understanding of how ICT is used in business. You will participate in a trip to Jaguar LandRover in order to give you first hand understanding of how information systems support their business. You will then compare and contrast those systems to Finham Park School. The units covered in Year 12 are: Unit 1 - Communication and employability skills for IT Unit 2 - Information Systems Unit 14 - Computer animations What is unique about this subject? This subject is assessed completely by coursework which is externally moderated. The practical skills developed in Year 13 are transferable to the related industries (web production and computer games development). Your work is marked Distinction*, Distinction, Merit or Pass. You are able to achieve Distinction* at AS (equivalent) level if you achieve Distinction, Distinction, Merit in your first three units. What skills will I develop? During Year 12 you will become competent at using a range of IT tools and investigate information systems in depth. You will learn how to produce interactive Flash animations which can later be embedded into your website in Year 13. During Year 13 you will develop advanced web development and computer game development skills. These will include exploring the use of CSS, XML and interactive content for the production of websites.
