This course will help you with: SPEAKING AND LISTENING, Understand and enter into discussions with other people. Listen to others' opinions and be able to say what you think. Use formal and informal English in different situations. READING, Read a variety of different texts such as books, interviews, newspapers, exercises to extend your vocabulary. Understand the main points of a piece of writing. Find information in a text. WRITING, Organise your writing and plan what you want to write in accordance with the CAE exam criteria. Use grammar more accurately. Check your work for spelling etc. You will be given the opportunity to use websites to help with your English and to use the college intranet system to access work set by your tutor.

Name: EFL - Cambridge Advanced Examination (CAE) Level 2 Qualification title: Non regulated Community Learning provision, Languages, Literature and Culture of the British Isles Qualification type: Assessment There will be an initial diagnostic test in all five CAE papers: Reading, Writing, Use of English, Speaking and Listening in the first two weeks to assess your overall ability. You will need to achieve 60% in all papers to be able to take the exam in the same term. During the course, there will be in-class tests and mock exams to help you pass the exam successfully. Your teacher will assess your individual progress in speaking and listening, reading and writing throughout the course and give you advice on how to improve and when to take the exam with Cambridge. Attendance You are expected to attend every lesson, however if you are unable to attend you must inform your tutor as soon as possible. Bring to Pen & paper, folder or file. You will be expected to buy a course book, which will be approximately £25. Questions How much homework will I need to do outside of class? Your teacher will set homework each week for you. It is important that you complete the homework. Students who do homework make better progress. What will happen if I miss a class? Please inform your teacher if you are unable to attend a class. Students are expected to attend at least 80% of their classes. Are there any other costs involved You will be asked to buy a course book. The CAE exam will cost approx. £80-90. Your teacher will talk to you about this. When will exams take place? You can take the CAE exam at college if you are a student on the CAE course. Your teacher will advise you when they are. Do I need any special equipment? Please bring a small English/English dictionary, a pen and a folder to keep your work in. What books do I need? Your teacher will tell you. What software do I need? Your teacher will show you useful websites and you can use the computers in the Learning Centres. Is there any tutorial support? Your teacher will meet with you individually at least once a term to help you improve areas of weakness.
