This will be an introductory 5 week course looking at China's rise since 1911. It will begin with the democracy revolutions and the end of the dynasties, taking us up to the China's Open City policy that fuelled the country as it is today. Especially looking at Chaing Kai-shek, the Guomintang, Sino-Japanese relations and the divisive figure of Mao-Tse Tung (Chairman Mao). ?
