Children's Book Illustration - All levels

The course is designed for beginners to childrens book illustration who wish to learn the fundamentals of illustrating for children, as well as allowing those with more experience to refresh and develop their skills. During this course students will be encouraged to develop their imagination and personal visual language through the use of technique and style. Students will work on a variety of creative briefs (different from those on the beginners course) that will allow them to explore the requirements needed when illustrating for different age groups. Throughout the course students will be introduced to the history of children s book illustration from the 1800 s through to contemporary illustrators working todayStudents will take a variety of briefs through the necessary stages from the initial research through to the rough stages and onto the completion of the final illustration(s). Each brief will focus upon a specific age group with the aim of producing a series of illustrations for the children s book market and looking at how we approach illustrating for different age groups. Students will be encouraged to think about, research and develop their work within each session and use their initiative to participate in self study. Students will be taught via short presentations, 1:1 tuition with the tutor as well as class discussions and evaluation.
