Come to the Opera

UPDATED 20150617 11:26:26

Stories and characters from the ancient world have fascinated composers of opera right up to the present day. We will study operas based on classical myths, where possible comparing settings of a story by different composers. Starting with the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, as set by Monteverdi and Gluck, we will study operatic versions of various stories from the ancient world. The operas will be shown on DVD and/or CD, with illustrations on the piano.
