This advanced class will extend your range and level of skills and techniques and enable you to produce a decorated pastillage gift box containing biscuits iced and decorated to a high standard with advanced techniques learned over the course. Much of the course is based around the use of royal icing and piping skills.This course is very practical and will consist mainly of demonstrations by the tutor, followed by an opportunity for you to practice, with as much individual support as necessary, to achieve success. You will have the opportunity to try out a range of advanced techniques. The emphasis will be on using royal icing in a variety of ways including piping skills and how to handle pastillage. You will be able to apply your own design ideas to a presentation biscuit box in either a contemporary or traditional style. Weekly Plan 1. Introductions. Piping skills assessment. Runout numerals, initials, motifs and flowers: thick and thin, traditional and stencil methods. 2. Make and bake biscuits for the whole course in a variety of shapes and some on ribbons and sticks. Cover some biscuits in sugarpaste and royal icing. Overpiped and paint runouts using brushwork and stitchwork. Remove runouts and add to biscuits. 3. Fill out IEP's. Wet on wet techniques including spots, stripes, hearts, swirls, feathering etc 4. Small stencils using royal icing, food colour and dusts, gilding, chocolate and cinnamon sugar. Top and side stencils using royal icing on a cake dummy. 5. Make royal icing at different consistencies to practice flat coating, scroll work, over piping,321 piping and dropped loop-work -working on dummies 6. Petal tip piped flowers and leaves onto biscuits and flower nails. Piped rosette swirl roses. 7. Piped runout collar. Free piped lettering styles.. 8. Finish collar with inset filigree and picot dot edgeing. Make and cut pastillage pieces for box.Make tags and plaques 9. Fix pastillage box together. Folk art painting 10. Patchwork cutters
