ESOL Entry 3 (Speaking and Listening)

This course is for students who can speak and write English moderately well. You will learn to take part in simple conversations in social situations. The lessons are friendly and you will be able to learn new words. You will improve your reading and writing skills and, if you are ready, take an Edexcel SfL ESOL Entry 3 Speaking and Listening exam in either the autumn or spring term. You will take your Edexcel SfL ESOL Reading and Writing exam in the spring term.READING SKILLS: You will be able to develop your ability to read more fluently and interpret a wide variety of texts: newspapers, magazines, brochures, leaflets, advertisements, reports and narratives. Practising reading techniques will help you in reading for gist and reading for detail and to improve overall reading skills. WRITING SKILLS: We will give you practice and help in writing formal and informal letters, articles, reports, applications, compositions and stories. GRAMMAR: There is constant revision and extension of all areas of grammar. LISTENING SKILLS: We offer practice in listening to English in different situations e.g. recorded messages, commentaries, documentaries, instructions, news announcements, advertisements, speeches, stories and talks. SPEAKING SKILLS: You will have the opportunity to develop your communicative skills while paying attention to accuracy, fluency, range, pronunciation and intonation. You will practise speaking in pairs/groups in different situations such as: information-exchange, planning, problem-solving, decision making, discussing and speculating. Your teacher will give you homework each week, which may include using the internet or email. You will also be helped and guided towards relevant TV and Radio programmes. EXAMINATION TECHNIQUES: Practice of all types of questions set in the exams.
