Students will develop a variety of skills in a range of areas from studio based recording using DAW recording software (Logic Pro) and hardware (Alesis HD24) including 32 channel Soundcraft Ghost mixer and full analogue and digital routing, a live sound PA, composition and performance. Students will be able to gain a wider experience of media and the application of music to TV, radio and new media; making links between students specialising in those areas to help develop their music projects. Students will work in a purpose built multi-track recording studio, experiencing it from the vantage point of producer, composer, performer and studio engineer. Audio recording and computer music are essential skills and we introduce the basics, from an induction into the use of microphones and the analogue recording chain through to more advanced computer based music production skills in semester 2. There is an opportunity to combine practical knowledge with performance and during the annual live radio broadcast it is expected that students will have the opportunity to work with the live band/acoustic artist sessions. Students will also have the opportunity to set up event PA’s and perform musically at various events during the year.
