Farnborough has a well-earned reputation in regional and national terms as a provider of high quality education and training. This reputation relies to a considerable extent on the calibre of our staff that have backgrounds that blend academic and industrial/business environments. Their skills are regularly updated to keep pace with technological advances: in recent years staff have gained certifications from CISCO, SUN, MCSE, Oracle, Java and PRINCE2. Computing at Farnborough is very well resourced with high quality facilities, which enable all courses to be provided with a high degree of vocational relevance. This suite of Computing degrees is designed to provide students with the practical knowledge, skills and expertise that will prepare them for a rewarding career in information technology in their chosen field. Option modules chosen in the second and third year of study will define the particular degree title awarded. It should be noted however that a particular pathway might not be offered if insufficient students choose the required option modules. Links with Industry All students must take advantage of a work placement in their second year. This allows them to gain valuable industry experience. Typical placements have been in DSTL Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, Fibre Comms Data Ltd, Tullett Prebon, the computing department of Frimley Park Hospital and VADition Intuitive Technologies. In addition a number of students have taken advantage of our links with British Oxygen to take a year long contract there as Associate Project Managers, before returning to complete their final year.
