This course is aimed at students who want to acquire the engineering competences needed to progress to the workplace, those who are currently employed in engineering and require additional skills or those undertaking an apprenticeship. Students will study the NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations. The PEO course has been designed to provide the fundamental skills and knowledge common to all engineering practices and processes. Subjects covered Students will take mandatory units plus predetermined optional from the specialist units. Mandatory Units - Level 1 and 2 Working Safely in an Engineering Environment Carrying out Engineering activities Efficiently and Effectively Using and Communicating Technical Information Optional Units may include: Producing Mechanical Engineering Drawings Using CAD Assembling & Testing Electronic Circuits Producing Sheet Metal Components and Assemblies Preparing & Using Lathes for Turning Operations Welding Techniques On completion Students will leave the college with a good practical qualification that will enable progression to work via an apprenticeship or to further education progressing to a level 2/3 course.
