The cool climate and minerally soils of Burgundy, in northern France, produces classic styles of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, indigenous grapes of this region. Chablis, in all its infinite variety, is perhaps the world's best known white wine. Further south, in Beaujolais, the warmer gravelly soils suit the Gamay grape, with wines as diverse as floral Fleurie and earthy Brouilly from the array of villages famous in this region.
