The Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science covers a wide range of scientific areas and is broadly equivalent to three A Levels. Study units include Working in the Science Industry, Scientific Investigations, Perceptions of Science, Mathematical Tools for Science, Biochemistry, Biochemical Techniques, Genetics and Genetic Engineering and Medical Physics Techniques. The qualification offers an engaging programme for 16-19 year olds who are enthusiastic about science. The course is ideal for students who are aiming to study science at university or who are wanting to pursue a career in science. Many of our past students have successfully gone on to study a wide range of science degrees at university from forensic science to midwifery. The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science is a 180-credit and 1080-guided-learning hour (GLH) qualification that consists of six mandatory units plus optional units that provide for a combined total of 180 credits (where at least 135 credits must be at Level 3 or above). The course is a two year course. In your first year you will study nine unit equivalents and the same number in your second year. Alongside your course you will study English and/or Maths to improve your skills in these vital subjects by attending structured classes, as well as having your English and maths assessed in all of your work throughout your course.
