This course will provide you with a broad understanding of mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering that will prepare you to study the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering or for employment as an engineering apprentice. You will study a range of core subjects to give you a good grounding in engineering basics including working safely, using and interpreting engineering information and engineering maths. You will also take other subjects to give you a broader understanding of key engineering principles. These may include electrical and mechanical science, engineering materials, understanding a range of engineering processes and other topics. You will continue to improve your English and/or maths skills in structured lessons alongside your course, and if you plan to progress to a Level 3 course you will need to demonstrate a satisfactory level of improvement in English and/or maths by the end of the year. You will learn through a lot of different activities across your course. These will include classroom-based learning, completing projects, and learning using specialist equipment in our laboratories and workshops, using computer software (including simulation) and practical sessions. You will also be expected to complete projects and assignments outside of your main classes.
