Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma: Sports Studies

Access to HE Diploma's prepare students who are 19yrs+ for degree level study. When you finish the course you can progress on a Foundation Degree within Gateshead College or a full degree at university. It is widely recognised by UK universities and many actively encourage Access to HE applications. The course lasts for one year and, although there are no formal pre-requisite requirements, students without GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C must achieve Level 2 on Functional Skills Maths and English diagnostics (you can do this when you enrol). This course is for students who are interested in progressing onto a Sport degree or foundation degree, such as Sports Studies, Sports Development, Sport and Exercise Science, Coaching or PE teaching. You will study a range of units and complete graded assessments throughout the year in a range of formats, e.g. practical observations, written assignments, tests and presentations. The units you will study are:Sports Studies units: •Introduction to Sports Coaching and Leadership •Introduction to Sports Science •Introduction to Education Theory and Practice •Planning a Practical Investigation (in Sport and Coaching Fitness) •Carrying out a Practical Investigation (in Sport and Coaching Fitness) •Exercise, Health and Lifestyle •Fitness •Sports Development •Sports Injuries •Coaching Practice •Nutrition for Sport •Practical Sports Performance •Sport in Society •Sports Psychology
