If you are one of those people who can't stop asking irritating questions about things most people take for granted, then either you are daft or Philosophy is for you (or both?). Philosophy is all about thinking clearly and critically and working out your own arguments on the biggest issues of our lives. You also have the opportunity to learn what other thinkers have said on such topics. In the AS course we will begin with the most basic philosophical questions about human knowledge, and go on to study ethics including practical ethical issues such as abortion, euthanasia and genetic engineering. We will also consider sociological and psychological challenges to religion. Two modules are taught and examined in the first year leading to a further two if students decide to progress onto the A2 course - all modules are assessed by written examination.
