The ICT and Informatics Certificate is equivalent to an AS level and can be taken as the first of a two year course that combines to be the equivalent of a full A level. As a BTEC there is no exam to revise for and all work is assessed at this centre. Informatics really means problem solving with data and information. The course is concerned with using software to solve issues in practical, real world projects. It is about learning how to use IT to make your work faster, smarter and easier to manage whether you are a strong and highly academic student studying science, a creative student who needs to get the most out of IT because you want to be focused on what you do or a business studies student who needs to back up the hard business logic you have learned with the practical execution of IT logic. Informatics teaches students how to extract, structure and organise information in day to day academic and business situations. Informatics focuses on managing content, structuring documents and the separation of form and content. In this way, Informatics students learn how to use a range of software to process information and represent it in easy to understand and compelling formats. Students process data and learn how to work with it to reveal information that is useful for decision taking Informatics Is useful for all students since it encourages them to manage their study load through the acquisition of organisational skills and by using IT to create meaningful solutions to the problem of how to deal with too much information!
