If you have been out of education for a while and would like to gain access to a university level qualification such as a degree, an Access course may be the best way forward for you. Access courses are equivalent to three A levels and allow access to university level courses. Additional GCSE Maths, English and Science classes are available and Level 2 numeracy and literacy sessions can also be arranged. If you want to teach, write or progress to a humanities degree this course can help you on your way. The Literature element covers Poetry, Prose, Fiction, Shakespeare, Drama other than Shakespeare and a unit on a book you choose for yourself. You will also study books from a wide range of periods. You will develop your skills of analysis, evaluation and writing. You will write an essay for each of the five modules. The history element covers an introduction to the methodology of history, the range of sources and their uses for historians. If you follow history as your main subject you will have the opportunity to conduct a piece of research into a topic of your choice. Course Delivery This course will require 2 days per week attendance at Somerset College.
