This course is suitable for students who have an interest in the applications of Science or are taking complementary A Levels. This course is equivalent to one A Level, and could be studied alongside other A level subjects such as Biology, Chemistry or Psychology. BTEC Applied Science is an exciting practical based course that equips students with a range of scientific skills and introduces them to forensic and medical procedures. If you are good at problem solving and carrying out practical work, this course will suit you. If you find that you do better in coursework than exams, you should enjoy the BTEC Applied Science (Forensics/Medical) course. BTEC Subsidiary Diploma students study 6 units over the 2 years of the course. In the first year the students would study the compulsory units: - Fundamentals of Science - Working in the Science industry - Scientific practical techniques In year 2 they would study units including: - Criminology - Physiology - Genetic Engineering - Biochemistry - Microbiology - Using Mathematical tools for Science. - Using Statistics for Science.

Each unit studied consists of 60 hours of study and students will typically undertake 3-4 assignments per unit. Assignments are set and graded by your lecturers and the grades for all units contribute towards the overall grade that is awarded at the end of your 2-year course. There are 12 assignments per year.
