AS/A Level Dance

The A Level Dance course has been taught by experienced and professional lecturers since 1995. The students develop skills in contemporary technique, choreography and dance appreciation as well as having the opportunity to develop team building and self-discipline skills. There are also regular trips to the theatre to see dance and workshops delivered by professional choreographers and performers. In the 2nd Year there is an optional residential trip abroad to study aspects of the Performing Arts Industry. Results, show grades to be consistently above the national average and local college benchmarks with a high percentage of students achieving an A or B. The course leader is a Senior Examiner and Subject Adviser for dance. After the course many students have progressed to top vocational schools including Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, London Contemporary Dance School. In the last 5 years some students have joined companies such Punchdrunk, Richard Alston Dance Company, Puppik Dance Company and Impact Dance. AS Unit 1: Understanding Dance Unit 2: Choreography and Performance A2 Unit 3: Dance Appreciation: Content and Context. Unit 4: Group Choreography and Solo Performance You will have the opportunity to perform, develop choreographic skills and learn how to appreciate the work of past and present choreographers. As well as contemporary dance technique classes you will study Dance History and Anatomy. Assessment is by examination for the theory whilst the practical unit will be internally assessed and externally moderated.
