BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) level 3

You can follow one of three strands, the Diploma, Extended Diploma or Subsidiary Diploma. The courses will develop your skills and understanding of sport. You will learn about how the body works relating to sport, the anatomy of the body, organisation and development of sport, fitness testing and training and develop your skills in sports coaching and leadership. There will be opportunities to take part in the team sports and other sporting activities and there is the potential to take additional related qualifications/awards, including Emergency First Aid, Fitness Instructor at level 1 and 2, Community Sport Leaders Award level 2 and FA level 1 Football Coaching award. The Subsidiary Diploma takes one year to complete and covers seven units, the Diploma takes two years and covers 13 units and the Extended Diploma takes two years and covers 19 units. You will achieve the equivalent of one, two or three A-levels at grade A*-E. Units will include: Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport, The physiology of fitness, Assessing risk in sport, Fitness training and programming, Practical team sports, Leadership in sport, Exercise, health and lifestyle, Sports coaching, Sports development, Sports injuries, Rules, regulations and officiating in sport, Work experience in sport. This is not an exhaustive list and units may be subject to change.
