Methods of study will include demonstrations, lectures, tutorials, practical tasks and assignment work with work experience on the animal unit. The industry experience unit of the course provides you with the perfect opportunity to gain skills and experience required for the animal care industry. Students may also take Work-based Learning Qualifications in Animal Care as part of the course. Course modules include 4 core modules: Animal health and welfare Animal accommodation Practical animal feeding Work-related experience. Plus optional units to be chosen by the tutor from the following: Basic principles of animal biology Animal behaviour and handling Presentation and service for retailing Introduction to animal breeds and grooming Conservation and improvement of British habitats. Functional skills in Maths, English and IT are also integrated into the programme. These are essential skills for employment in the animal care industry. Opportunities are also available to upgrade your GCSEs in Maths and English. Assessment is by internally assessed coursework, which includes both written and practical assessments.
