You will be working with a range of tools and equipment. Course topics will include; safe and effective working practices in land-based industries, maintenance of tools and equipment, assisting with the repair and maintenance of structures in the countryside and horticulture industry. You will also have an introduction to wildlife and conservation as well as contribute to the propagation of plants and assist with the maintenance of plants and sites in the countryside. You will be required to develop personal, social and study skills. Finally, you will also learn how to drive a tractor. You will be based at the Common Leys Farm. This is the college's land-based practical site in the West Oxfordshire countryside with purpose-built practical teaching areas. There is regular public bus transport to and from Common Leys. Assessment is via assignment, multiple choice computer based exams (GOLA), a portfolio of evidence, and practical tasks.
