This is a work-related qualification which provides preparation for employment in a variety of IT-based occupations in a trainee capacity. The course provides a good practical grounding in the use of information technology and an understanding of how it affects us all in the way we work. The topics covered include; practical experience in a variety of software packages such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics packages, web-page design and creation. Looking at the functions of hardware and software and the role of IT in the workplace - how it is used by people and organisations to handle, process and present information. The course offers a range of learning experiences in the form of practical use of information technology, related theoretical issues together with tutorial support throughout the year. Assessment is by internally assessed coursework.
