Folk, Fiddle, Flute and Mandolin - Improvers

If you have been playing music for a while and would like to develop your skills in playing traditional music, this is your opportunity to learn in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. All tunes are taught by ear so there is no need to read music. We will also look at aspects of ornamentation and the skills required for playing together in a group and performing. By the end of the course you can expect to be able to do the following: •Play tunes such as jigs, reels, polkas and hornpipes by ear •Enjoy playing as part of a group •Learn skills to improve listening and performance •Learn ornamentation such as roll, cuts and triplets •Discuss aspects of music and playing together with like – minded people Your tutor Diana has been playing folk music for 25 years, having learnt to play at an adult educationevening class in London, she went on to play in bands and sessions for many years. She thenmoved to west of Ireland in 2004 and spent four years playing and studying with local musiciansfollowed by two years studying on the BA in Irish Music and Dance at the University of Limerick.
