Are you eligible to get this course free? This course might be free to people receiving Job Seekers Allowance or Disability equivalent allowance. If you think this applies to you please ask for more details during your interview at the college. This course is undertaken by attending taught class based lessons each week for 7 weeks. The tutor will teach elements of the course; which learners will then practice during the class with the tutors support and away from the class as self study between attendance dates. As the course is taught learners will need to ensure they practice sufficiently to ensure they are ready for each class. They will do this by using the workbook provided to reflect on what you have learned. Learners that have any additional learning needs will need to discuss this with their tutor or student support when applying for the course to ensure they are provided with any additional support they are eligible to receive from the college. As skills are developed the tutor will set learners short exercises so they can build evidence of the skills they have developed. These together with workbook will contribute to building a portfolio of evidence to gain the qualification. What does the course cost include? The fee to BCS for the workbook and exam registration College student registration fee (this is an annual fee of £20.00; if the learner undertakes a follow-on course or any other course in the college in that academic year (August to end July) they will pay the fee just once A small charge towards tuition costs. Some people they are in receipt of benefits may not need to pay fees - this can be discussed on application or through student services

Entry requirements

Ideally you will have access to a computer with Microsoft office 2010 and the software appropriate to the units of learning you chose to study - this can be discussed at your interview with a tutor before enrolling on a course. Although access to a computer is not essential, as you can access the college learning centres, it will help your pace of learning. If you do not have access to a computer away from classes you will be expected to access the college learning centre (by appointment) or a library learning centre between classes to practice what you have been taught. Have a digital camera whether on your mobile or another device would be of benefit but if you do not have this technology the college will supply then for use during taught sessions.
