Note: The college student registration fee is an annual fee of £20.00; if the learner undertakes a follow-on course or any other course in the college in that academic year (August to end July) they will pay the fee just once. This course is undertaken through distance learning using online course materials with tutor support via email; telephone and occasionally 1-2-1. The fees provide learners with 2 hrs 1-2-1 tutor support over the entire course plus 30 minutes pre-exam assessment support & exam feedback. If learners feel that they will need more support than this they should consider undertaking the class based course as this course would not be appropriate for them. This course is flexible enabling study to fit around other commitments. However; learners are required to demonstrate that they are studying on the course from the agreed start date of their course. Therefore; unless learners are ill or are on holiday; each week they are require to provide their tutor with evidence of progressing through the course. If learners have any difficulties meeting these requirements they should discuss them at the interview before enrolling on this course. If the learner is not in contact with their tutor or studying on their course for more than 2 weeks the tutor or a college administrator will contact them to offer support. If the college is unable to gain a response from a learner they will be written to with the aim or withdrawing them from the course by the 3rd week of no contact. Learners will have an agreed course end date with an expectation of them to have completed their course and undertaken the exam within 3 months of their course start date. If the learner feels that they will need more time to complete their course this must be discussed with their tutor at the earliest opportunity and at least 1 month before their course end date otherwise their course may not be able to be extended; learners should seek written confirmation of any extension to their

Name: Database Software (Level 2) Qualification title: Database Software Qualification type: Assessment Assessment: There will be 45min exam at the end of the course. Sample assessment can be undertaken before taking the final exam. What if I fail the exam? The candidate is able to re-sit the test but they will be further BCS diagnostic & test fees and invigilator costs. Therefore, to re-sit an exam will cost £40 A tutor will give candidates guidance on the areas that you need to brush up on and then once they feel they are read they can sit the diagnostic test and if scored high enough re-sit the exam. What if I do not want to sit an exam? This course is offered as a BCS module to enable learners to flexible build their BCS accreditation to gain an Award of Certificate in IT User Skills if they so wish. However, if the learners has no need for the accreditation, certificate of achievement or attendance then this course can be offered without the exam and without the exam fee. Entry requirements

Ideally learners will have access to a computer with software similar the applications they will be studying - Microsoft Windows 2007 or 2010 and have adequate security protection. Although this is not essential as learners will use college computers during class and have access the college learning centre to practise skills learnt for self-study.
