This weekly attendance class based course is suitable for people who want to develop a good understanding of using and creating databases. Learners will attend taught classes each week throughout the duration of the course and be supported by the class tutor. Learners will work from course materials accessed from the college website; which can be downloaded onto a memory stick for future use and reference; printed copies of the course materials can be borrowed from the tutor and text book can be borrowed from the library. Note: The college student registration fee is an annual fee of £20.00; if the learner undertakes a follow-on course or any other course in the college in that academic year (August to end July) they will pay the fee just once.

Sample assessment can be undertaken before taking the final exam. What if I fail the exam? The candidate is able to re-sit the test but they will be further BCS diagnostic & test fees and invigilator costs. Therefore, to re-sit an exam will cost £40 A tutor will give candidates guidance on the areas that you need to brush up on and then once they feel they are read they can sit the diagnostic test and if scored high enough re-sit the exam. What if I do not want to sit an exam? This course is offered as a BCS module to enable learners to flexible build their BCS accreditation to gain an Award of Certificate in IT User Skills if they so wish. However, if the learners has no need for the accreditation, certificate of achievement or attendance then this course can be offered without the exam and without the exam fee. If this is a choice the learner would like to explore please discuss at the pre-enrolment interview following application to the course. Ideally learners will have access to a computer with software similar the applications they will be studying - Microsoft Windows 2007 or 2010 and have adequate security protection.
