Students may work in whichever media they wish, as the principles will be applicable to all mediums, though techniques may vary. It is suggested you work in the media you are most used to, as Portraiture is quite challenging. We will do portraits from photographs initially, so students should bring a photograph of a subject they would like to paint or draw. We will work from the live model later in the course and examine the different benefits and drawbacks of working from life and working form photographs. Students work to their own speed and goals and we will have fun as well as gain a grip on some basic elements of Portraiture. Outcome of Course Improved skills in obtaining a likeness of a human or animal subject and a grasp of some useful techniques and exercises you can apply to future work. You should also have several portrait pieces to take away with you.
