AS Course Content The Edexcel Geography specification is an issued-based course, which examines current topics central to the people environment relationship. It develops further the skills learnt at GCSE. Unit 1 - Global Challenges World at Risk - introduction to a range of global natural hazards which threaten some areas of the world more than others; climate change and global warming. Going Global - today's rapid economic changes, which are impacting unfairly on people across the globe, related issued of population change, migration and the impact of megacities. Unit 2 - Geographical Investigations - fieldwork and research methods will be taught in this unit. Extreme weather - how extreme weather events lead to short and long term hazards and how they will need to be managed. Rebranding places - how urban and rural places re-invent and market themselves to attract businesses and people. A2 Course Content Unit 3 - Contested Planet - case studies will be drawn from different parts of the world, using topical examples. Energy Security - present energy resources and flows, impacts of energy insecurity and future sources. Water Conflicts - present-day supply and demand, conflicts linked to water insecurity. Biodiversity under Threat - nature of ecosystems and value of biodiversity, threats to ecosystems and how they can be managed. Superpower Geographies - what a superpower is and how the patterns of power change over time, how superpowers influence money flows, wealth and culture; the implications of the rise of new superpowers.
