Chemistry A Level

UPDATED 20150520 15:56:32

Chemical concepts are introduced within a relevant context, the course being written as a series of units based on contemporary issues in Chemistry. Students study the chemistry in a spiral way so that chemical ideas, introduced in an early topic, are reinforced later. The 'dripfeed' approach to teaching and learning chemical principles allows candidates to revisit a particular topic several times during the course, each time taking their knowledge and understanding a step further. This is the only A Level Chemistry specification based on a complete course package, with integrated course books and activity sheets designed at the same time as the specification. AS-The course is based on a series of five ‘chemical story-lines’. Each story-line focuses on a way that chemistry is used in the world:- Chemistry for Life (unit 1) - The Elements of Life - Developing Fuels Chemistry of Natural Resources (unit 2) - Elements from the Sea - The Atmosphere - The Polymer Revolution In addition there is an internally assessed 'chemical skills' unit which examines experimental skills. Chemistry in Practice (unit 3) - AS internal assessment A2 - The course is based on a series of eight 'chemical story-lines'. Each storyline focuses on a way that chemistry is used in the world:- Chemistry in Materials (unit 4) - What's in a Medicine? - The Materials Revolution - The Thread of Life - Steel Story Chemistry by Design (unit 5) - Agriculture and Industry - Colour by Design - The Oceans - Medicines by Design In addition there is an internally assessed 'Individual Investigation'
