Printmaking (Spring Term)

UPDATED 20150518 10:35:34

This course is a fantastic introduction to the printed mark that will aim to provide a general overview of a number of basic printmaking techniques. During the course you will learn about both intaglio and relief printing methods, including monotype, linoleum and collagraph. Each week you will learn new techniques and processes exploring creative ways to make images. The course is designed to help the student develop a basic knowledge of printmaking and to give them the confidence to move forward in this artistic medium, building their portfolios. For each technique the aim will be to contextualise the process within the contemporary art world. This course is suitable for everybody, from beginners interested in developing skills in printmaking, to the more experienced practitioner looking to refresh their knowledge and critique their practice. Please note the print room at Swindon College is non-toxic, so if you wish to bring any of your own inks they must be water based. Course Content You will be able to use a variety of imagery for this course for inspiration such as photographs, sketches, or other work from artists you find influential. The course is particularly centered on textures and surfaces, so bring a selection of varied materials to use within your printmaking, such as leaves, lace, wallpaper etc. Whichever you wish to use, each print you produce will be completely individual and unique.
