This course prepares you with skills and knowledge in a variety of topics that will prepare you for the next level of education, Apprenticeship or a job in Applied Science. You will need to be prepared to attend college 4 days per week and attend work experience 1 day per week (gaining a total of 100 hours of work experience). In Biology, you will study topics such as cell structure, immunology, disease, body systems, biochemistry, reproduction, gene technology. Chemistry includes organic and inorganic processes and reactions, atomic structure, bonding, rates of reaction, enthalpy and entropy. Physics covers electrical circuits and energy, sources of energy, medical physics, including ultrasound, diagnostic imaging and magnetic resonance imaging as well as astronomy and cosmology. Maths includes statistics and trigonometry. The course is laboratory based and you will learn to conduct experiments and analyse results using a wide range of techniques. You will study approximately 9 units per year and will have the opportunity to upgrade Maths, English and Biology GCSE subjects.
