These replace the A1 Assessor Award. The new qualifications provide assessors with the opportunity to develop and improve their practice and achieve a professional qualification specific to their role. For those working in accredited and non accredited learning on the NQF and QCF framework the Edexcel Level 3 qualifications (3 Awards 1 Certificate) are and consist of a mix of competence and knowledge based units (1) Award in Understanding the Principles and Practice of Assessment (1 unit 3 credits) Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment a knowledge only route for those who want to know about assessment e.g. the manager who is not yet an assessment practitioner. (2) Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (2 mandatory unit 9 credits) Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment. and Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment. This award is for those who assess in the work environment using appropriate assessment methods eg observation of performance examining of products of work questioning discussions with the learner use of others (witness testimony) looking at the learner statements and recognising prior learning. (3) Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (2 mandatory unit 9 credits) Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment Assess Vocational Skills and Knowledge and Understanding. This award is for assessors in the workshop or classroom using methods such as simulations skills tests oral and written questions assignments projects case studies recognising prior learning. (4) Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (3 mandatory unit 15 credits) Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (theory) Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment (mainly observation) and Assess Vocational Skills knowledge and understanding (mainly observation). This is for those who use assessment methods and need to be qualified in all aspects of assessment.
