The GCSE grades available on this Foundation course are G - C. Generally speaking grade C is considered as a PASS grade by employers or educational establishments requiring GCSE Maths. We would recommend that students are at a grade D level to find this course most accessible. We enter students for the AQA examinations which take place in May/June and there are two papers. The Foundation level course offers students the chance to improve their basic arithmetic skills before moving on to harder topics. Maths is a building block; subject. What you are trying to understand in one week depends on what you studied in the past. If you missed those previous lessons and dont try to catch up the chances are you will have problems in grasping what is being taught. There are no easy methods to get a good grade at GCSE unless you are a natural. It is vital to practise answering as many questions as possible from past papers and to attempt the assignments that come with each weeks work. Successful students have spent at least 2 hours a week consolidating each weeks work. The syllabus is divided into four main sections: 1.Using and Applying Mathematics. 2. Number and Algebra 3. Shape, Space and Measure 4. Handling Data. These 4 sections are covered in equal proportion by the two written papers In our experience, students can usually expect to improve their result from the previous year by one grade.
