You will explore and develop drawing and painting techniques using a wide range of tools and materials to apply to your portrait artwork. These sessions will aim to build on confidence through the observation and interpretation of form, tone, texture, proportion, and colour theory and practice. This course will also extend your awareness and understanding of other artists portrait work and art movements looking at different social and cultural influences. This will be supported with online learning, hand outs, material resources and group activities.

Please bring the following to the workshop: Materials Pencils 2B-6B Quality cartridge paper or an A2 sketching pad 140 lbs Any of the following: pastels, charcoal, crayons, coloured pencils (dry/water soluble) G ouaches or watercolour paints (for starters two different of the following: reds, blues, yellows, amber, ochre and sienna Equipment Portfolio to display or carry artwork Drawing board (optional) Selection of brushes sable/synthetic approx. 4-8 size Putty rubber and pencil sharpener Will I need to do anything in my own time? Your tutor will encourage you to continue to practice these techniques further at home. This will maximize your post- course paintings and projects. You will also be encouraged to visit exhibitions, galleries, museums and libraries. There will be a tutor-led opportunity to do this as a group (optional). Learners may also benefit from joining an art club/society and participation in exhibitions.
