This course is offered at various sites across Cornwall and Devon. - Occombe Farm, Paignton, South Devon. The course is centred around sustainable production of a range of food crops where you will cover all aspects of production under cover (Polytunnels), in raised beds and outdoor production. - Duchy College,Rosewarne (Green Fingers) where you will work within the extensive grounds, glasshouses and polytunnels and the Nursery and within the local community. - Heaven Scent, Wheel Martyn, St Austell within the Nursery and surrounding grounds. Ideal if: you would like to improve your horticultural skills and knowledge, whilst gaining a nationally-recognised qualification. You'll need: at least a GCSE at grade E or above in English and Mathematics, or an equivalent qualification. You will also need to have a keen interest in gardening and the environment. You'll learn: about propagation, establishing plants, identification of plants, care and maintenance of plants, understanding the growing environment for plants and an introduction to common pests, diseases and their control. Expect: your assignments and projects to be assessed throughout the course, and of course to get your hands dirty! You'll love: learning about all aspects of production including polytunnels, raised beds and outdoors. You'll go onto: a Level 2 Horticulture Apprenticeship or Diploma in which there is the opportunity to specialise in a particular area of horticulture if you so wish.
