Crochet/Knitting

The course will cover starting from the basics in both techniques. In the knitting element, learners will cover casting on and off, knit and purl stitches along with increasing and decreasing. These techniques will then be taken further to explore some of the patterns which can be created using the 2 main stitches before introducing different colours. Learners will also have the opportunity to learn how to create lacy patterns in their work along with knitted flowers. In the crochet element, learners will cover double and treble stitches and how to create other stitches building on those basics. Learners with cover how to increase and decrease and how to create different patterns within their work through the use of different stitches along with how to crochet in spirals. There will also be an opportunity to create crochet flowers, enabling learners to compare those with flowers they have knitted. There will be a number of weeks where the learners will have the opportunity to undertake projects of their choice using the skills they have learnt.

Entry requirements

Learners will be expected to bring their own 4mm knitting needles and crochet hooks and to bring small amounts of double knitting wool each week to try out the techniques and carry out the small projects. They will also need to bring the materials they need for the project of their choice. Full details will be given at the start of the course.
