These RHS qualifications are aimed mainly at vocational candidates looking for the skills and knowledge needed for a career in horticulture, but at level 2 and 3 these are also ideal for amateurs who wish to have their horticultural knowledge assessed against a professional standard. From 2010 the RHS has changed the format of its qualifications to follow the new national system where the title of a qualification indicates the amount of study, not the level of study. This means that a Certificate can be awarded at either level 2 or 3, and after more study a Diploma can also be awarded at either level. There are now two separate theory Certificates and one Practical Certificate which you can study at Level 2, building up a strong foundation in horticultural theory and practice. This Certificate introduces students to the principles of garden planning, and choosing and growing ornamental and crop plants.
