Chemistry Level 3 GCE A2 Level

UPDATED 20150428 15:29:01

This is a key science subject concerned with studying and understanding the composition and behaviour of substances. You will gain detailed knowledge of the forces operating between primary particles, such as atoms and molecules, as well as looking at the factors which alter the rate of reaction. Practical activities help to develop your manipulative skills and enhance a deeper understanding of the subject. You will learn to apply the key chemical ideas in a variety of topical issues such as the environment, modern materials and medicines. Understanding and knowledge of chemical principles provides an excellent complement to other areas of study such as Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Geology or even coupled with Law, Business Studies or Art. Opportunities are available in the second year to design and carry out a research project of your own in an area in which you have a particular interest: possible ideas might include something pharmaceutical: such as the analysis of lens cleaners, iron tablets or making aspirin, the analysis of food: vitamin C, or exploring something biological, possibly the behaviour of enzymes.
