Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry so they offer a structured programme that takes Apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an Apprentices training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off:the:job training within the College.ECITB NVQ Plating/Fabrication on site units include: Contribute to effective working relationships in engineering constructionWork safely and minimise risk in engineering constructionIdentify and deal with hazards and emergencies in the engineering construction work environmentShape components of fabricated steel structures by material removal using hand tools in engineering constructionAssemble components of steel fabrications to meet specification in engineering constructionManually form components to specification in engineering constructionJoin materials by manually controlled welding process in engineering constructionCity and Guilds Pipefitting in college units include:Theory and Practical sessions in: Core units: : Engineering Health & SafetyExample of Optional Units: : Preparing for and inspecting fitting operationsFitting by machining and assembling components Fitting by use of hand toolsThe apprentice NMW applies to all 16 to 18 year old apprentices and to those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. If the apprentice is aged 19 and / or has completed the first year of their Apprenticeship the employer must pay the NMW appropriate for their age.
