Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry so they offer a structured programme that takes Apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an Apprentices training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off:the:job training within the College.Course Content:BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering Level 3Core units:: Health and Safety in Engineering Workplace.: Mechanical Principles and Applications.: Electrical and Electronic Principles.Example of Optional Units:: Mechanics for Engineering Techniques.: Applications of Mechanical Systems.: Engineering Drawing for Technicians.: Selecting and Using Programmable Controllers.: Computer Aided Manufacturing.NVQ Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Level 3Mandatory Units:: Complying with Statutory Regulations and Organisational Safety Requirements.: Using and Interpreting Engineering Data and Documentation.: Working Effectively and Efficiently In Engineering.Example of Optional Units:: Producing Mechanical Engineering Drawings using CAD System.: Producing Components using Hand Fitting Techniques.: Producing Mechanical Assemblies.: Preparing and Using CNC Milling Turning And Grinding Machines.The apprentice NMW applies to all 16 to 18 year old apprentices and to those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. If the apprentice is aged 19 and / or has completed the first year of their Apprenticeship the employer must pay the NMW appropriate for their age.
