Level 1 Sport and Active Leisure

UPDATED 20150423 09:29:36

This programme is ideally suited for those with a genuine interest in sport and active leisure, but who also have the ability and determination to succeed. We ideally ask that applicants are actively involved with a sports team or health and fitness club as this will enhance their research. There is an expectation for all sport students to take part in college sports teams and enrichment activities, before lessons and on Wednesday afternoons, throughout the year. You will gain an insight into the wide and diverse nature of this growing sector. The programme retains an academic base, whilst including practical units and modules. You will need to be confident, self- motivated and a good communicator as this will stand you in good stead for your research work as well as your work placement. You will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will also learn about the employment area you have chosen, and develop the skills you need to start a career. The programme is made up of a variety of practical and theoretical units from the wide nature of this growing sector. Each unit is worth a number of credits which will make up your final grade. The following are a sample of the units (these may vary each year): Jobs in sport Planning and participating in an event Working in sport Assisting in the delivery of activity sessions With our help, all students are expected to organise a relevant work placement each year. In addition to this, you will be required to help at college enrichment and sporting events around the college and with the local primary schools. All students without an A*-C grade in English or Maths will be required as a condition of the programme to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme. Year on year, the sport and active leisure sector outperforms the rest of the UK economy. The annual contribution of the sport sector to the UK is over
